Are you insane?! Mel’s Hard Luck Diner ruined my trip! There is nothing at Mel’s that is any better than what I ate in my high school cafeteria. The food forced my wife and I to waste an afternoon taking turns on our hotel toilet and ruined a day of our vacation. And the worst part is the service, it takes forever to get your meal because the staff are all washed up old Baldknobbers back up singers that are too busy trying to hock their CD’s instead of bringing you your food!! This place was a complete waste of time and money!!

I agree with Matt, as soon as I saw Mel’s Hard Luck Dinner on this list, I discredited the rest. That place was horrible.
I have yet to find a decent place to eat in Branson.

I agree with Kelly. When we ate at Mel’s, we only ordered dessert because we were taking a break from shopping. The server snarled. She came back with the dessert and slid it across the table. The dessert was good but the service was bad. We didn’t see our server again until we asked another to find our check so we could leave.

I noticed these are or were all reataurants right off 76, except for the Chateau. There are many other reataurants in Branson. Culver’s has a great Reuben sandwich and many other items that are made fresh to order. They do not cook in the microwave or have frozen burgers that set in a warming drawer until someone orders it.

I’m shocked that the Golden Corral is not on this list! Wonderful buffet for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

wow… what about mcfarlands?? the best fried green tomatoes i have ever eaten or the branson cafe, the farmhouse cafe .. i hate to hear the rails is no longer ..i just told a couple that are in branson now to eat at the rails. and lone star is awesome also

Someone needs to put in a “Sweet Tomatoes” restaurant in Branson. The food served there is buffet type, and is primarily vegetarian, but of course, that is ok with me, because I am vegetarian. But, it is sooo good. Salad, breads, a large variety of soups, and dessert bar. Perfect! :o)
Also, I know about “The Farm House” in old downtown. We have went there for years. Love going there, and the people are always so nice and friendly. We have been going to Branson every year, sometimes 2 or 3 times a year for about 30 years now. We are partial to old downtown, as it used to be. Not now! All of the “new” there–all of the pricey stuff, and things we do not enjoy now. It is not quaint and cozy anymore. The new developers lost that charisma when they tore up old downtown by the Niangua River. I think they could of done better, in my opinion..
But, we loved the good old days because there used to be several little cozy cabins to stay at during your visit in Branson near the Niangua River (although because there is now the new end of town with all of the shops, lofts, real estate there, it is touted and marketed to sell real estate there as a “Lake” but, it is really only a river.
But, we prefer the old–I do not like the new. But, we still visit Branson, and surrounding areas, Arkansas too. We just don’t go to the “new” end of town.
But, since the tornado hit there a couple of years ago, businesses has been dwindling and almost to a halt, especially along Hwy. 76. So, if someone could come up with a really good Mom and Pop restaurant, where prices were family oriented, and the staff was friendly, I think they would be able to stay in business.
If anyone takes upon my ideas–I expect to get royalties! :o) Thank You.

Mels Diner was very memorable on one of our last visits. Our server was fantastic. John Sager gave us a personal performance of Bon Jovi for our anniversary, put a lovely note on our cd and was wonderful to talk and joke with. He has a beautiful voice. The food was great too. I guess it depends on your server and the cooks. But for us it was a wonderful experience.
